
Typhoon No.16 hit Kure-City on August 30, 2004
Large-scale and powerful Typhoon No. 16 passed through Chugoku region in the evening of August 30. Our supply and production are not affected by the typhoon. The details of the typhoon and its effect to DISCO as well as our response are reported as follows.
Typhoon No. 16
According to the news media, Typhoon No.16 moved up through Chugoku region to the North bringing high tide water to the coast including Kure-City where our Kure plant is located. The water was brought to a very high level with the effect of both spray tide and full tide. Around 22:20 pm, when the water was at full tide, the roads were inundated in Nigata-Honcho of Kure-City. Evacuation instructions were issued to the residents of some part of the city and people took shelter in Community Centers, etc. Approximately 3,300 households were affected by the flood below floorboards and about 400 households were flooded above floor level in Kure, Onomichi, Mihara and other cities in Hiroshima.
Impact to DISCO and our response
As the typhoon approached Kure-City, JR trains stopped operating at 14:00 pm and Kure municipal bus also stopped service at 15:00 pm within the city.
All the employees of our Kure Plant, Kuwabata Plant and Nagatani Plant were instructed to leave at 15:30 pm in order to ensure safety.
Resumption of normal business
From early morning of August 31, we started checking the production facilities and confirmed that there was no problem, and normal production resumed at 8:00 am.
No inconvenience or delay has been caused to supply or production facilities of any of our plants in Hiroshima.
Our situation is as stated above.
We would like to express our sincere sympathies to those who were affected by the Typhoon 16.
