DISCO to Use Kaspersky Labs Japan Products as Built-in Security Solutions in its Precision Processing
Equipment for First Time
DISCO Corporation (Headquarters: Ohta-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Mizorogi) and Kaspersky Labs
Japan, Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Rintaro Kawai), a software manufacturer offering information
security solutions, have jointly announced that Kaspersky solutions will be incorporated and used in DISCO dicing
saws. This marks the first time that Kaspersky's software solutions will be used in precision processing equipment
and semiconductor production systems.
Recently, when precision processing equipment such as dicing saws have been used overseas, the problem
of contamination by viruses through USB memory devices has become increasingly serious and the risk of secondary
contamination when using host communication and other functions is also on the rise. Until now, security measures
for these equipment have been confined, for example, to the establishment of certain rules to be complied with by
the user companies when using the equipment, and operators have only been able to counter threats of contamination
by exercising up-to-the-moment caution. Boasting a significant market share in its field, DISCO has considered it
essential, above and beyond ensuring adequate measures for the environment in which the equipment is operated, to
take security measures in the equipment itself. In order to resolve these security problems, DISCO has decided to
be the first in the industry to incorporate security software solutions into its equipment.
Regarding what solutions to use, DISCO turned to Kaspersky Labs Japan, whose products have a solid
reputation for their detection rates and speed in dealing with new forms of malware, as well as a proven installation
track record. DISCO plans to ship its dicing saws with the security software of Kaspersky Lab installed as a standard
option, and will allow the saws to be used after the remote activation of the software in accordance with customer
requests. Even if a USB device contaminated with malware were connected at a user company, the user's equipment would
not be contaminated; and by being informed of the presence of the contamination, the user company would be able to
promptly take the appropriate action to deal with the problem in its internal system.
