DISCO's Original OHS Management System Starts at the Head Office

DISCO Corporation (Headquarters: Ota-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuma Sekiya) will put into operation its own occupational health and safety (OHS) management system for the Tokyo Head Office in April 2010.
At the DISCO Group, Hiroshima Works was certified by OHSAS 18001, the international OHS standard, in 2004. This time, DISCO has established an original OHS management system equivalent to OHSAS 18001 and will start its operation in the Head Office.

Background

Normal business activities at the head office are mostly desk work and this means that the risk of occupational hazards is low compared with the manufacturing site and therefore there are not many cases which require the investment of resources to build its specific OHS management system.

In the case of DISCO, however, since there is an R&D Center on the Head Office premises, the importance of taking some kind of OHS measures even at this location is fully recognized. During R&D operations, there are especially many opportunities to use parts, machines, and chemicals for the first time, which create different risks than the plants. Accordingly, DISCO has determined to start its original system in the Head Office.

Details of the Management System

Scope

:

Head Office including the R&D Center

Preparation period

:

July 2009 to March 2010
(Time required for establishing the system: 9 months)

Commencement of operation

:

April 2010

Certification

:

DISCO does not plan to be certified under the official standard for this system.

Operation in the Hiroshima Works

:

DISCO aims for zero accidents in 2010 and works hard to achieve this goal for the whole group not only the Head Office and Hiroshima Works, but also the offices, plants, and subsidiaries in Japan and worldwide.
