Compliance with the China RoHS

In recent years, laws restricting the use of hazardous substances have been getting stronger in various countries around the world.
Coming on the heels of the enforcement of the EU’s RoHS Directive in July 2006, on March 1, 2007 the Management Methods for Controlling Pollution by Electronic Information Products (China RoHS^*1) went into effect. This law makes it mandatory to label and disclose information on specified hazardous substances in electronic information products exported to China. DISCO’s precision processing equipment falls under the purview of this law, so we created a system for complying with it.

The formal name of the law is "Management Methods for Controlling Pollution by Electronic Information Products." It was promulgated on February 28, 2006 and went into effect on March 1, 2007. The law makes it mandatory for electronic information products on the Chinese market to display labeling pertaining to certain hazardous substances and include information on the substances in product manuals. The hazardous substances and their thresholds are the same as the EU’s RoHS Directive. More stringent regulations will not go into effect until the summer of 2007.

Specific Initiatives

In accordance with the requirements of the China RoHS, we will label precision processing equipment to indicate its environment-friendly use period.^*2

We will also provide information to customers, the equipment user, on whether the parts that comprise the equipment contain any specified hazardous substances.

^*2Environment-friendly use period of electronic information products refers to the period during which the toxic and harmful substances or elements contained in electronic information products will not leak or mutate. The electronic information products will not cause serious environmental pollution and serious damage to human health and property while the consumers of electronic information products are using the products.
